Five For Free #49

Virals - Magic Happens

Virals is the new project of former Lovvers frontman Shaun Hencher and they release a double a-side single this week. One of those tracks (the other being 'Comes The Night'), 'Magic Happens', you can download free below and is a beautiful piece of hazy, fuzzy, laid-back, 60s influenced guitar-pop that wouldn't have sounded out of place on the latest Smith Westerns album.

Hospitality - Friends Of Friends

We mentioned on Monday that the debut album from Hospitality is out this week and if 'Betty Wang' didn't do enough to convince you to investigate them further then download another track, 'Friends Of Friends', for free and see if that can persuade you. It's a lovely, stuttering experimental pop tune with a catchy chorus and should be further proof that they're in possession of some very fine songs.

Breton - 15x

Film and music combo Breton began making minor ripples with the release of their 'Sharing Notes EP' a while back. These ripples are turning into waves as more and more people fall for their brand of indie/electro experimenting and the London band are shortly heading out on a UK tour with a new EP to promote. Check out 'Sharing Notes' track '15x' for free.

Veronica Falls - Bad Feeling

It took a couple of attempts for C86 throwbacks Veronica Falls to get their self-titled album a full release, but thankfully they didn't miss the boat and the record generated some decent press and good reviews. The London-based Glaswegians have given out a couple of free downloads in the past but now you can get recent single and album stand out 'Bad Feeling' for free too.

The Joy Formidable - A Heavy Abacus

Also proving that taking your time can pay dividends are Welsh indie-rock band The Joy Formidable who released an early version of their album for free back in 2009. Last year saw the album proper getting an official release to much critical praise and earning them some pretty big gigs. Last autumn's speaker-busting single 'A Heavy Abacus' has now been made available as a free download, so crank it up.
