Given the much publicised rise in obesity rates, it's possible that prom bodies might not be quite as appealing as they once were. This particular Prom Body is very appealing though (as a heterosexual man I mean this in a purely musical way, although I'm sure main man Mike Fay has his admirers), and given that the recordings are essentially solo, then they're clearly the work of a multi-talented guy. New album 'Naughty By Natural' is due out at the end of July and is the follow-up to last year's 'Creep The Strange'. To coincide with the album launch, the band (they become a quartet for live duties) will be heading out on tour.
If single 'My Paradise' is a barometer of what to expect from both album and shows, then both would appear to be well worth investigating. Prom Body do fuzz-rock here, but not the kind of lo-fi-for-the-sake-of-it noise that so many others make; there's a stream of lead guitar that runs through almost the entire song, and the drum machine nicely counteracts this so that it's removed from becoming conventional indie-rock. Much like the video, 'My Paradise' is a whirlwind of colour and is bursting with life and with energy. It's tempting to pause for breath when the song finishes, but equally tempting to hit repeat. So if you catch one of the gigs, be sure to pack in the energy drinks.
