Jack Garratt - Worry

Single review by karla@thesoundofconfusion.com

Something beardy this way comes, and in this instance, it takes the form of London singer-songwriter Jack Garratt. 2014 has seen him effortlessly combing his way through the internet with a sleek and smooth, alternative sound that combines elements of soul, r&b, electronic and indie to name but a few. 'Worry' is the latest offering from Garratt, following on from 'I Couldn't Want You Anyway' and 'Water', and has a great vibe to it.

The opening of the track sees Garratt's vocal performance sincere and sombre, a parallel to the forlorn mood of the opening verse. The tone of the song is broken up by bouts of funk, and reverb before Garratt breaks into falsetto with a soulful “don't you worry about it”, a surprisingly feel-good change of direction. The electronics and synth on the track range from sparse and minimalistic, which provide a great backdrop to the raw emotion of Garratt's vocal range, before crossing over to glitchy and layered, showing ingenuity and diversity. With his debut EP 'Remnants' all set to drop on 14th July (both digitally and on vinyl) and a run of UK summer festival appearances recently announced, we're expecting Garratt fever to grow and be groomed to perfection in a similar fashion as beard is to face. Mark our words!
